Association between lactase deficiency symptoms of lactose intolerance and the small intestinal microbiome in adults
Study on Lactose Digestion and Gut Health
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to study the role of the enzyme (substance produced by the body that helps in a biochemical reaction like digestion in the body) responsible for digestion of lactose and the role of the gut bacteria (bacteria in the intestine) in producing symptoms of lactose intolerance.

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: lactose intolerance
-
Age: 100 years or below
-
Gender: All
This study investigates the role of an enzyme, which is a substance produced by the body to assist in biochemical reactions like digestion, in the digestion of lactose. It also explores how gut bacteria, which are bacteria in the intestines, contribute to symptoms of lactose intolerance.
Participants in this study will undergo procedures to assess the function of the enzyme responsible for lactose digestion and the impact of gut bacteria on lactose intolerance symptoms. The study will involve analyzing digestive processes and symptoms.
- Who can participate: Participants must be adults aged 18 to 65 who experience symptoms of lactose intolerance. Other eligibility criteria include no history of gastrointestinal surgery and not currently taking antibiotics.
- Study details: Participants will provide samples for enzyme and gut bacteria analysis. A placebo, which is an inactive substance that looks like the investigational medicine but does not contain any medicine, may be used in some procedures.
