Quidel Solana Strep Complete
Study on the Prevalence and Diagnosis of Group C Streptococcus (GCS) and Group G Streptococcus (GGS) in Pharyngitis
Brief description of study.
The purpose of the study is to: demonstrate the prevalence of GCS and GGS in patients presenting with pharyngitis, reveal the similarity in symptoms between patients diagnosed with GAS and GCS/GGS, demonstrate the Solana performance compared to culture, identify antibiotic prescription practices for GCS and GGS infections, compare historical data on antibiotic use based on current diagnostic algorithm for GAS with antibiotic use after testing with Solana Strep Complete assay.

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: pharyngitis
-
Age: 100 years or below
-
Gender: All
This study investigates the prevalence of Group C Streptococcus (GCS) and Group G Streptococcus (GGS) in patients who have pharyngitis, which is a sore throat caused by infection. It also explores how symptoms in these patients compare to those with Group A Streptococcus (GAS), another type of bacteria causing sore throat.
Participants will undergo testing using an investigational method called Solana Strep Complete assay, which will be compared to traditional culture methods. The study will also look at how doctors prescribe antibiotics for GCS and GGS infections and compare past antibiotic use data with current practices after using the new test.
- Who can participate: Eligibility for participation includes individuals aged 18 to 65 who have symptoms of pharyngitis. Key factors include no recent antibiotic use and no history of chronic throat conditions.
- Study details: Participants will be tested for GCS, GGS, and GAS using the Solana Strep Complete assay. This test is compared to the usual culture method to see how well it works. The study will also observe how antibiotics are prescribed based on the test results. If a placebo is used, it is defined as an inactive substance that looks like the investigational medicine/vaccine but does not contain any medicine.
