Brief description of study.

This explorative research study seeks to understand how and which type of  "entrepreneur" undergraduate and graduate students clients at the Shoemaker Innovation Center identify themselves with, and how their day-to-day activities align or do not align with their entrepreneurial self-identification/self-labeling.

Detailed description of study

The focus is placed on participants who are current student clients at the Shoemaker Innovation Center at Indiana University- Bloomington or those who are part of a start-up team within the center. The goal is to better understand the following questions

Research Questions
1. Do the clients identify themselves as entrepreneurs?
2. Which type of entrepreneur types do they identify themselves with?
3. How do they identify themselves as entrepreneurs? (ex: what activities are they partaking in it that are entrepreneurial?)
4. Are student clients partaking in and exhibiting social entrepreneurship behavior but identify themselves as entrepreneurs driven strictly by profit?  (Ex: The clients' company is focused on challenging a specific social status quo, but they claim that they are completely driven by profit. value-based behavior but identifying as profit-based)

Inclusion Criteria

Must be a student client at the Shoemaker Innovation Center
Must be part of a team or a solo company at the Shoemaker Innovation Center
Must identify itself as an "entrepreneur"

This study investigates how undergraduate and graduate students at the Shoemaker Innovation Center view themselves as entrepreneurs. It aims to find out what kind of entrepreneurial identity they associate with and how their daily activities match this self-identification. The research focuses on students who are either clients of the center or part of a startup team within it.

Participants will be asked about their entrepreneurial activities and behaviors. The study will explore whether students who engage in social entrepreneurship still see themselves as profit-driven entrepreneurs, despite their involvement in socially beneficial activities.

  • Who can participate: Participants must be student clients at the Shoemaker Innovation Center. They should be part of a team or run a solo company at the center and identify themselves as an "entrepreneur.".
  • Study details: Participants will discuss their entrepreneurial activities and how these align with their self-identified entrepreneurial type. They will share insights into their day-to-day tasks and behaviors as entrepreneurs.
