This study investigates how eating certain foods the day before a colonoscopy affects the cleanliness of the colon. A colonoscopy is a procedure where doctors look inside the colon to check for any issues. The study will compare the effects of a low residual diet, which includes foods like eggs, chicken, and potatoes, with a standard clear liquid diet.
Participants will be assigned to one of two study arms. One group will follow a low residual diet, while the other group will follow a clear liquid diet the day before their colonoscopy. The study uses an FDA-approved bowel preparation to clean the colon before the procedure.
- Who can participate: Participants must be adults aged 18 and older. Key eligibility factors include not having a history of bowel obstruction or inflammatory bowel disease.
- Study details: Participants will either eat a low residual diet or follow a clear liquid diet the day before their colonoscopy. They will use an FDA-approved bowel preparation to clean their colon before the procedure. An inactive substance, known as a placebo, may be used to compare against the investigational diet, if applicable.
