The purpose of this study is to investigate the preferences of third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students for non-Western music, specifically music from nine world regions including Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, China, Japan, Singapore, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the preferences of third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students for non-Western music, specifically music from nine world regions including Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, China, Japan, Singapore, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Healthy
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates the preferences of third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students for non-Western music. Non-Western music refers to musical traditions that originate outside of Western countries like the United States and Europe. This study focuses on music from nine different world regions: Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, China, Japan, Singapore, Cuba, Mexico, and Peru.

Participants in the study will listen to music samples from these regions and provide feedback on their preferences. The feedback will be collected to understand how children perceive and appreciate music from cultures different from their own.

  • Who can participate: Children in third, fourth, and fifth grades are eligible to participate. No specific age criteria are provided, but participants should be in the specified grade levels.
