Neurodevelopmental Effects of Donor Human Milk vs. Preterm Formula in ELBW Infants
Investigating the Effects of Donor Human Milk on Neurodevelopment in Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW) Infants
Brief description of study.
The specific aim of this research proposal is to determine the effect on neurodevelopmental outcomes at age 22-26 months of donor human milk as compared to preterm infant formula as the in-hospital diet for ELBW infants whose mothers choose not to provid

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Low Birth Weight
-
Age: 100 years or below
-
Gender: All
This study investigates the effects of using donor human milk compared to preterm infant formula on the neurodevelopmental outcomes of extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants. ELBW infants are those who are born with a weight of less than 1000 grams. The study focuses on understanding how different types of in-hospital diets may impact the development of infants who cannot receive milk from their mothers.
Participants in this study will receive either donor human milk or preterm infant formula during their hospital stay. The neurodevelopmental outcomes of the infants will be assessed at the age of 22 to 26 months to determine any differences that may have resulted from the type of milk received during their early life.
- Who can participate: The study seeks ELBW infants weighing less than 1000 grams who are not receiving milk from their mothers.
- Study details: Participants will receive either donor human milk or preterm infant formula in the hospital. Neurodevelopmental outcomes will be evaluated at 22 to 26 months of age.
