Detailed description of study

The objective of the present study is to explore the production of the /l/ sound in Spanish spoken by native English-speaking university-level learners of Spanish as a second language (L2) as well as native speakers of Spanish.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Spanish
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

The purpose of this study is to investigate how English-speaking university students who are learning Spanish as a second language produce the /l/ sound in Spanish. The study will also include native Spanish speakers for comparison. The /l/ sound is a common consonant in many languages, but its pronunciation can vary, making it a point of interest for language learners.

Participants in the study will be recorded while speaking Spanish to analyze their pronunciation of the /l/ sound. This will help researchers understand the differences and similarities in sound production between native Spanish speakers and learners of Spanish whose first language is English.

  • Who can participate: Participants must be university students who speak English as their first language and are learning Spanish, or native Spanish speakers.
  • Study details: Participants will be asked to speak in Spanish while their pronunciation of the /l/ sound is recorded for analysis.
