The purpose of this study is to identify what causes flares of ulcerative colitis.

Detailed description of study

The aims of this study are to determine whether specific microbial community patterns during the course of CDI, treatment, and recovery are associated with the induction of ulcerative colitis (UC) flares, and to determine whether specific microbial community patterns during the course of CDI, treatment, and recovery are associated with recurrence of CDI in UC patients.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: ulcerative colitis
  • Age: 18 years - 100 years
  • Gender: All

This study investigates the causes of flares in ulcerative colitis, a long-term condition that affects the colon and rectum. The purpose is to understand if certain patterns in the microbial community, which are the groups of microorganisms living in the gut, are linked to the start of UC flares during different stages of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), its treatment, and recovery.

Participants will undergo procedures to monitor microbial patterns in their gut over time. This will help researchers see if changes in these patterns are associated with UC flares or the recurrence of CDI.

  • Who can participate: Participants must be adults diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and have a history of Clostridioides difficile infection. Additional eligibility criteria may apply.
  • Study details: Participants will have their gut microbial patterns monitored to determine any association with UC flares or CDI recurrence.
