Detailed description of study

The purpose of this study is to assess the prevalence of JC virus in refractory inflammatory bowel disease (UC/Crohns) patients and to find any risk factors common among these patients that may contribute to development pf infection with JC virus.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: inflammatory bowel disease
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates the presence of the JC virus in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), specifically those with ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease that do not respond to standard treatments. The JC virus is a common virus that usually does not cause problems, but in people with weakened immune systems, it can lead to serious infections.

Participants in this study will undergo tests to check for the JC virus and will provide information about their health history and lifestyle. This will help identify any common factors that may increase the risk of developing a JC virus infection in patients with refractory IBD.

  • Who can participate: Adults aged 18 and over diagnosed with refractory inflammatory bowel disease, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, may be eligible to participate.
  • Study details: Participants will be required to undergo testing for the JC virus and provide details about their health and lifestyle to help identify potential risk factors. Note: Placebo is not applicable in this study.
