Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates antibiotic resistance, specifically carbapenem resistance, in order to support the antimicrobial stewardship program at IU Health. Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria change in a way that reduces or eliminates the effectiveness of drugs designed to cure or prevent infections. Carbapenem resistance is a type of antibiotic resistance that impacts the effectiveness of carbapenems, which are a group of antibiotics used for treating severe or high-risk bacterial infections.

Participants in this study may be asked to provide samples for testing to determine the presence of carbapenem-resistant bacteria. These procedures are important to understand how resistance develops and spreads, and to find better ways to manage antibiotic use in healthcare settings. The study does not involve any direct treatment with investigational medication.

  • Who can participate: This study does not have specific eligibility criteria provided.
  • Study details: Participants may provide samples for testing to identify carbapenem-resistant bacteria. There is no treatment involved in this study.
