Investigating CFTR Function and Biomarkers in Cystic Fibrosis
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to determine how is CFTR function different between people with CF and those without CF, and among people with CF who have different CFTR mutations, can you tell something about a person?s level of CFTR function by measuring proteins and other indicators (?biomarkers?) in blood, sputum, and/or stool, and how much do biomarker levels change when tested at three different times over three months.
Detailed description of study
The purpose of this study is to collect specimens and clinical data to better understand the molecular mediators and profiles that characterize specific levels of CFTR activity in three different cohorts.

This study investigates the function of the CFTR protein in people with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) compared to those without the condition. CFTR, or Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator, is a protein that helps regulate the movement of salt and water in and out of cells. The study also looks at how CFTR function varies among people with different CFTR mutations. Researchers aim to find out if they can learn about a person's CFTR function by measuring proteins and other indicators, known as biomarkers, in blood, sputum, and stool.
Participants will have their biomarkers measured at three different times over a period of three months. The study involves collecting specimens and clinical data to understand the molecular factors that indicate specific levels of CFTR activity. This information is gathered from three different groups of participants.
- Who can participate: Eligible participants include individuals aged 18 to 65 years with a confirmed diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis, as well as healthy volunteers. Key eligibility factors include specific CFTR mutations and no recent changes in CF-related medications.
- Study details: Participants will provide blood, sputum, and stool samples for biomarker analysis. These samples will help researchers determine CFTR function and identify molecular factors associated with CFTR activity.
