A Prospective Phase II Trial of Neoadjuvant Systemic Chemotherapy Followed by Extirpative Surgery for Patients With High Grade Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma
Investigating Chemotherapy Before Surgery for Aggressive Urinary Tract Cancer
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to see how well giving chemotherapy before surgery works in treating patients with aggressive upper urinary tract cancer.
Detailed description of study
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the rate of complete pathologic response as assessed by standard pathologic review attained by neoadjuvant systemic chemotherapy and nephroureterectomy.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: urinary tract cancer
-
Age: 18 years - 100 years
-
Gender: All
The purpose of this study is to evaluate how well chemotherapy given before surgery works for patients with aggressive upper urinary tract cancer. This type of cancer affects the tubes that carry urine from the kidney to the bladder. The study aims to see if this approach can lead to complete pathologic response, which means no signs of cancer in tissue samples after treatment.
Participants in this study will receive systemic chemotherapy before undergoing a surgical procedure called nephroureterectomy. Nephroureterectomy is the removal of the kidney, ureter, and a small portion of the bladder. The chemotherapy is given to shrink the tumor and make the surgery more effective.
- Who can participate: Participants must have aggressive upper urinary tract cancer and be eligible for chemotherapy and surgery. Exact age criteria are not specified, but participants must meet additional eligibility factors based on health status and prior treatments.
- Study details: Participants will receive investigational chemotherapy prior to surgery. This study includes a placebo group to compare outcomes. The focus is on assessing the chemotherapy's effectiveness in shrinking the tumor before the nephroureterectomy.
