Pain Modulation with Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of the Motor Cortex and the Cerebellum
Investigation of Brain Stimulation on Pain and Sensory Perception
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to test and compare the influence of transcranial direct current stimulation over the motor cortex and the cerebellum upon sensory (?perceptual?) and pain thresholds for various stimuli, including heat, electrical, cold, and pressure stimuli.
Detailed description of study
The purpose of this study is to test and compare the efficacy of M1 and cerebellar tDCS on perception and pain thresholds for various noxious stimuli, including heat, electrical, and cold stimuli.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: healthy
-
Age: 18 years - 39 years
-
Gender: All
This study investigates the effects of a method called transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on how people perceive pain and other sensations. The study focuses on two parts of the brain: the motor cortex and the cerebellum. Researchers want to see how this stimulation affects the ability to feel different types of stimuli, such as heat, electricity, cold, and pressure.
Participants will undergo procedures involving tDCS, where a small electrical current is applied to the scalp over the motor cortex or cerebellum. The study will measure changes in how participants perceive different stimuli, including their pain thresholds. This will help understand the potential effects of tDCS on sensory perception.
- Who can participate: Participants aged 18 to 65 years who do not have neurological disorders and are not pregnant may be eligible for this study.
- Study details: Participants will receive transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on specific brain areas. The study will measure their sensory and pain thresholds to various stimuli.
