Personal exposure to pollutants in rural mining communities
Study on Environmental Organic Compounds and Health Effects
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to assess levels of personal exposure to types of organic compounds that may be present in the ambient environment, and to test whether exposures are related to self-reported health and to blood test measures of inflammation and thyroid function.
Detailed description of study
The purpose of this study is to assess levels of personal exposure to types of organic compounds that may be present in the ambient environment, and to test whether exposures are related to self-reported health and to blood test measures of inflammation and thyroid function.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: healthy
-
Age: 100 years or below
-
Gender: All
This study investigates the relationship between personal exposure to organic compounds in the environment and health outcomes. Organic compounds are chemicals that can be found in the air around us. The study aims to see if these exposures are connected to self-reported health issues and specific blood test results.
Participants will have their exposure to these compounds measured and will undergo blood tests to check for inflammation and thyroid function. Inflammation is the body's response to injury or infection, and the thyroid is a gland that controls metabolism.
- Who can participate: Adults aged 18 and older who are exposed to organic compounds in their environment may be eligible to participate. Additional criteria may apply.
- Study details: Participants will report their health status and provide blood samples for testing. The study will measure exposure to organic compounds in the environment. A placebo is not involved in this study.
