Validity of Ages and Stages III Questionnaires in High Risk Infants

Through the Developmental Pediatric Care for Infants and Children with Special Health Care Needs Program, an Indiana Department of Maternal and Child Health Title V funded program, the developmental progress of infants who were in the NICU or PICU and are considered high risk for developmental problems is followed closely through serial questionnaires (ASQ III) that the family fills out. At two to three years of age children in the program take a developmental test (BSID-III or CAT/CLAMS). At the time of the testing, the families are asked to complete an ASQ III. Monitoring the developmental progress of infants at high risk for developmental problems is considered a standard of care. We want to compare the parents? estimation of their child?s development (ASQ III) to the test results (BSID-III or CAT/CLAMS). The BSID-III is the ?gold standard? for measuring the developmental progress of infants and young children and the ASQ-III is a standardized screening tool for developmental progress that is recommended for use by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The program was started in November 2012 and the first program infant who will be tested with the BSID-III or CAT/CLAMS will turn 24 months corrected age in June, 2015. Thus the study will collect data prospectively.
