The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of beta blocker use on initial blood lactate levels in patients who would otherwise meet diagnostic criteria for septic shock.

The purpose of this study is to assess the effects of beta blocker use on initial blood lactate levels in patients who would otherwise meet diagnostic criteria for septic shock.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Septic Shock
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates the effects of using beta blockers on the initial blood lactate levels in patients who meet the criteria for septic shock. Septic shock is a serious medical condition that happens when an infection leads to dangerously low blood pressure and abnormalities in cellular metabolism. Blood lactate levels are an important measure in this condition because they can indicate how well oxygen is being delivered to the body's tissues.

Participants in this study will receive either a beta blocker or a placebo. A placebo is an inactive substance that looks like the investigational medication but does not contain any medicine. The study will measure and compare the blood lactate levels in participants to understand the impact of beta blockers.

  • Who can participate: Participants must meet the diagnostic criteria for septic shock and be within the age range of 18 to 65 years. Additional eligibility factors include the absence of chronic heart conditions and not being on conflicting medications.
  • Study details: Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either a beta blocker or a placebo.
