Brief description of study.

We want to understand (1) the frequency with which antibiotics are prescribed over the phone, in comparison to antibiotics prescribed in clinic and/or in the hospital, (2) whether patients prescribed antibiotics over the phone differ from patients prescribed antibiotics in clinic according to clinical characteristics and demographics (including distance from Riley Hospital to their home zip code), and (3) whether outcomes differ between patients prescribed antibiotics over the phone vs in clinic.

Detailed description of study

We want to understand (1) the frequency with which antibiotics are prescribed over the phone, in comparison to antibiotics prescribed in clinic and/or in the hospital, (2) whether patients prescribed antibiotics over the phone differ from patients prescribed antibiotics in clinic according to clinical characteristics and demographics (including distance from Riley Hospital to their home zip code), and (3) whether outcomes differ between patients prescribed antibiotics over the phone vs in clinic.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: cystic fibrosis
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates how often antibiotics are prescribed over the phone compared to in-person visits at clinics or hospitals. It aims to find out if there are differences in the clinical characteristics and demographics of patients who receive antibiotics over the phone versus those who receive them during in-person visits. This includes examining factors like the distance between Riley Hospital and the patient's home.

The study will also look into the outcomes of patients who are prescribed antibiotics over the phone compared to those who receive them in person at a clinic. This involves analyzing the effectiveness and any differences in the health results of these two groups of patients.

  • Who can participate: Participants must be patients who have received an antibiotic prescription either over the phone or during a clinic visit, focusing on age and key health details.
  • Study details: Participants will be grouped based on how they received their antibiotic prescription, either over the phone or in person, to compare differences in outcomes.
