Noise Exposure in a Performing Arts Set Shop
Investigational Treatment Study for [Condition]
Brief description of study.
In spring 2016, we made a connection with a small performing arts workshop that was interested in having us perform workplace evaluations to assess the occupational exposure to their employees, which provides a practical opportunity for students. We performed a small noise evaluation, by collecting personal area noise samples. We chose to sample specific individuals in areas of the workplace where noise may have been a problem, and we took area measurements during tasks that produced heavy noise levels. A graduate student was assigned to evaluate the data, and to prepare a presentation for the workplace.
After examining the data and searching the literature, we determined their was a lack of published information about this sort of unique environment, and publishing the data would be interesting to other professionals in estimating risk associated with noise exposures in similar workplaces, in creating sampling plans and analyzing the results, and in designing better workplaces. We would now like to use this data for a different purpose than that for which it was originally collected, making it similar to secondary data analysis.
