Brief description of study.

Many children suffer from a pulmonary condition known as chronic lung disease (CLD). Unfortunately, in these cases, the etiology of the chronic lung disease may never be found. Despite this, many pulmonologists obtain a lung biopsy as a last effort to define the scope of the disease. The hope would be that a more definitive diagnosis could be made and treatment algorithms altered. We hypothesize however, that in the absence of a defined lung mass, that routine lung biopsy in those children with chronic lung disease is a futile procedure, and does not alter the patient?s diagnosis or treatment pattern.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Healthy
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates the effectiveness of routine lung biopsy in children suffering from chronic lung disease (CLD). Chronic lung disease is a condition that affects the lungs over a long period, and its exact cause is often unknown. Sometimes, doctors perform a lung biopsy, which involves taking a small piece of lung tissue to examine it more closely, hoping to find a more specific diagnosis and change treatment plans.

In this study, the procedures involve comparing the outcomes of children who undergo routine lung biopsy with those who do not. The aim is to see if the lung biopsy changes the diagnosis or treatment for children with CLD, especially when there is no obvious lung mass.

  • Who can participate: Children aged X to Y diagnosed with chronic lung disease are eligible to participate in this study.
  • Study details: Participants will be divided into study arms where one group will undergo routine lung biopsy and the other will not. The study will compare the effectiveness of this procedure in altering diagnosis or treatment plans. No placebo is used in this study.
