This study intends to investigate the perception and production of certain English vowel contrasts by English-speaking monolingual children and by Mandarin-English bilingual children.

This study intends to investigate the perception and production of certain English vowel contrasts by English-speaking monolingual children and by Mandarin-English bilingual children.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: healthy
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates how children perceive and produce English vowel sounds. The purpose is to understand the differences in how English-speaking monolingual children and Mandarin-English bilingual children hear and say these vowel sounds. Vowels are the sounds in words like 'cat' or 'dog' that are not consonants.

Participants will be involved in activities where they listen to and repeat words. This helps researchers see how well the children understand and pronounce different vowel sounds in English. The study involves listening tests and speaking exercises to gather data on vowel perception and production.
