Brief description of study.

The purposes of this study are to: 1) describe the development and implementation of the pharmacist-managed OPAT program at EH; 2) describe performance improvement measures that have been documented by the OPAT program at EH; and 3) evaluate the incidence of adverse drug events and line complications in patients receiving parenteral antimicrobial therapy through the OPAT program at EH.

Detailed description of study

The purposes of this study are to: 1) describe the development and implementation of the pharmacist-managed OPAT program at EH; 2) describe performance improvement measures that have been documented by the OPAT program at EH; and 3) evaluate the incidence of adverse drug events and line complications in patients receiving parenteral antimicrobial therapy through the OPAT program at EH.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: osteomyelitis,abscesses,bacteremias
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates the development and implementation of a pharmacist-managed Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) program. OPAT refers to the administration of antibiotics or other medications through a vein, usually outside the hospital setting. The study aims to describe how this program was set up and how it operates at EH, a healthcare institution.

The study will also look into how the program has improved over time and assess any issues patients might face, such as adverse drug events or complications related to the intravenous lines used for treatment. Adverse drug events are unwanted side effects caused by a medication, while line complications can include infections or blockages in the intravenous lines.

  • Who can participate: Participants must be adults aged 18 or older who require outpatient intravenous antimicrobial therapy and are managed by a pharmacist.
  • Study details: Participants will receive outpatient intravenous antimicrobial therapy managed by a pharmacist. They will be monitored for adverse drug events and line complications, and their treatment progress will be evaluated as part of the study.
