CPDPC16-01: A Prospective Study to Establish a New Onset Diabetes (NOD) Cohort
Diabetes and Biobank Study: Investigating Blood Markers
Brief description of study.
The goal of this study is to create a large biobank of blood samples and data from patients who have just been found to have diabetes. We plan to search for proteins and other things in the blood that may help us tell the difference between ?regular? new-onset diabetes and the rare cases of new?onset diabetes due to cancer.
Detailed description of study
The purpose of this study is to: 1) define, identify and follow a large cohort of subjects who recently meet criteria for NOD, 2) develop a biobank of biospecimens from this NOD cohort, 3) retrospectively validate promising biomarkers of PDAC currently under investigation, and 4) provide a platform for development of an interventional protocol for early detection of sporadic PDAC NOD subjects.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Diabetes
-
Age: 50 years - 85 years
-
Gender: All
This study investigates the differences in blood markers in patients who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes. The purpose is to find proteins and other substances in the blood that may help distinguish between typical new-onset diabetes and rare cases caused by cancer.
Participants will provide blood samples for a biobank, which will be used to study potential biomarkers. These biomarkers are substances that can indicate a disease, and they are currently being studied for their ability to detect pancreatic cancer in diabetes patients.
- Who can participate: Adults aged 18 and older who have been recently diagnosed with diabetes are eligible to participate. Key eligibility factors include not having a prior cancer diagnosis and the ability to provide informed consent.
- Study details: Participants will be asked to provide blood samples for the study. These samples will help researchers identify and study potential biomarkers, which are substances that can indicate a disease. No placebo is involved in this study.
