- Conditions: alcohol use disorder

This study investigates the effectiveness of long-acting injectable naltrexone compared to oral naltrexone for individuals with alcohol use disorder. Alcohol use disorder is a condition where a person has difficulty controlling their drinking despite negative consequences. The study aims to determine if the long-acting form of the medication can extend the time before a person returns to drinking.
Participants in this study will receive either the long-acting injectable naltrexone or the oral form of the medication. The study will monitor the time it takes for participants to relapse, which means returning to drinking alcohol after a period of not drinking.
- Who can participate: Eligibility criteria include adults aged 18 and older with a diagnosis of alcohol use disorder. Participants must be willing to abstain from alcohol during the study period.
- Study details: Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the long-acting injectable investigational medication or the oral investigational medication. A placebo, an inactive substance that looks like the investigational medicine but does not contain any medicine, will not be used in this study.
