Brief description of study.

Specific Aims:
Aim I:  To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) on improvement of social and regulation behaviors in individuals with PWS.

Aim II: To evaluate a new methodology for collecting and evaluating vocal samples for analyses of prosody, one of the indices of the functioning of the SES.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Prader-Willi Syndrome
  • Age: 3 years - 100 years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion Criteria

1)  Child participants must meet criteria for Prader-Willi Syndrome (per parent membership in Prader-Willi Parent Support Group).
2)  Child participants must be between ages 3-15 years.  Parent must be 18 years or older.
3)  Child participants must have normal hearing (confirmed via parental report on Qualtrics questionnaire)

Exclusion Criteria

1)  Child participants who are hearing-impaired (without correction)

This study investigates the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) in children with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). Prader-Willi Syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects growth, metabolism, and behavior. The study aims to see if SSP can improve social interactions and regulation behaviors in these children. Additionally, it looks at a new way to collect and analyze vocal samples to understand how the social engagement system (SES) functions.

Participants will engage in activities involving the Safe and Sound Protocol, which is a listening therapy designed to improve social behaviors. The study will also involve collecting vocal samples from participants to analyze prosody, which is the rhythm and pattern of sounds in speech. This will help researchers understand the functioning of the social engagement system.

  • Who can participate: Children aged 3 to 15 years with Prader-Willi Syndrome who have normal hearing can participate. Parents must be 18 years or older and members of the Prader-Willi Parent Support Group.
  • Study details: Participants will engage in the Safe and Sound Protocol, a listening therapy designed to improve social behaviors. Vocal samples will be collected to analyze speech patterns, aiding in the understanding of the social engagement system.
