Mixed Methods Assessments of Psychosocial Effects of Venous Thromboembolism
Study on Experiences of Individuals with Blood Clots
Brief description of study.
The objective of this study is to address the limited knowledge regarding the experiences in participants diagnosed with Venous thromboembolism (VTE), in order to gain a richer understanding from the participant’s perspective of their thoughts and feelings about their illness and if patients diagnosed with VTE experience psychological long term and late effects (fear of recurrence/PTSD), and how this impacts their life.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Venous Thromboembolism
-
Age: 18 years - 70 years
-
Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria
- Patient who had experienced a symptomatic VTE, as a DVT, PE or both.
- Able to participate in 2-3 hour interview
- English the primary language
Exclusion Criteria
- Diagnosis of active cancer (under the care of an oncologist, metastatic disease or palliative care)
- Know history of mental illness or other psychological diagnosis prior to the VTE
This study investigates the experiences of individuals diagnosed with Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). VTE includes conditions such as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE), which occur when blood clots form in the veins. The purpose is to understand the thoughts and feelings of these individuals about their illness, particularly focusing on any psychological long-term effects like fear of recurrence or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Participants will take part in interviews lasting 2-3 hours to discuss their experiences with VTE. These interviews aim to explore how the condition and its psychological impacts affect their daily lives.
- Who can participate: Adults who have experienced a symptomatic Venous Thromboembolism, such as Deep Vein Thrombosis or Pulmonary Embolism, and speak English as their primary language, are eligible. Individuals with active cancer or a history of mental illness prior to VTE are excluded.
- Study details: Participants will engage in interviews to share their personal experiences with VTE. These interviews will help researchers understand the psychological and emotional impacts of the condition.
