This study investigates how hearing conservation education delivered through smartphone apps can affect the use of hearing protection among adolescent farmworkers in rural Indiana. The study focuses on adolescents aged 13 to 17 who live or work on farms and attend school regularly. Hearing conservation refers to practices and strategies that aim to prevent hearing loss, especially in environments with potential noise hazards.
Participants will receive educational information about hearing health using two smartphone apps or printed leaflets from the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH). The study will compare the effectiveness of these methods in encouraging the use of hearing protection. Participants will need to have a smartphone with an iOS operating system to engage with the app-based education.
- Who can participate: Participants must be between 13 and 17 years old, regularly attend school, and live or work on a farm in rural Indiana. They must also have a smartphone with an iOS operating system.
