Brief description of study.

This research will be conducted to examine the various functional tests that are used when screening ballet dancers before a season, in order to determine if they have the ability to predict if a dancer will suffer an injury or injuries. The goal of this research is to identify the test or tests that may allow us to predict injury so that injury prevention services can be improved for future ballet dancers.

Detailed description of study

Ballet dancers are a group of artistic athletes that suffer a high rate of musculoskeletal injury, and injury prevention is of paramount importance. Ballet therapists utilize unique sets of functional tests in hope to identify and prevent injury risk. The purpose of this study is to investigate the ability of these specific functional movement tests to predict the possibility of a ballet dancer suffering a musculoskeletal injury or injuries.

This study takes place in Bloomington, IN and is only accepting ballet dancers within the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington.

Participants will not be paid for their participation.

Updated on 19 Feb 2024. Study ID: 1608878123

This study investigates the ability of functional movement tests to predict musculoskeletal injuries in ballet dancers. Ballet dancers often experience a high rate of injuries, making prevention crucial. The study will focus on specific tests used by ballet therapists to identify potential injury risks.

Participants in the study will undergo various functional movement tests. These tests aim to assess the dancer's physical capabilities and predict the likelihood of future injuries. The findings will help improve injury prevention strategies for ballet dancers.

  • Who can participate: Ballet dancers who are full-time ballet majors at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Bloomington and are taking at least 8 ballet credits per semester can participate. Those recovering from surgery or with recent acute injuries are excluded.
  • Study details: Participants will undergo functional movement tests to assess injury risk. The study, conducted in Bloomington, IN, focuses on understanding how these tests can predict musculoskeletal injuries in ballet dancers.
