Comparative Effectiveness of Interventions to Improve Screening Among Rural Women
Investigating Methods to Increase Cancer Screening Rates in Rural Women
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of a tailored interactive DVD (TIDVD) vs telephone patient navigation (PN) + tailored interactive DVD (TIDVD) vs Usual Care in increasing screening rates for Breast Cancer (BC), Cervical Cancer (CC), and colorectal cancer (CRC) among women 50 -74 years living in rural areas, and to compare the cost effectiveness of the TIDVD and the TIDVD+PN intervention vs. UC, for adherence to each screening outcome or combination of screening tests.

This study investigates different methods to increase screening rates for Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, and Colorectal Cancer among women aged 50 to 74 living in rural areas. The study compares the use of a tailored interactive DVD (TIDVD), a combination of telephone patient navigation and TIDVD, and usual care to see which is more effective in encouraging women to participate in cancer screenings.
Participants in the study will use either a tailored interactive DVD alone, a combination of telephone guidance with the DVD, or will continue with their usual care practices. The study aims to evaluate how these methods affect screening rates and their cost-effectiveness. Participants will be compensated for their involvement.
- Who can participate: Women aged 50 to 74 who live in one of 32 specified rural counties in Indiana or Ohio are eligible. They must be able to speak and read English and have access to a DVD player or a computer that can play DVDs. Individuals with a personal or family history of certain genetic cancer syndromes or specific health conditions, or those planning to move or residing in institutions, are excluded.
- Study details: Participants will be involved in using either a tailored interactive DVD, a combination of telephone navigation and the DVD, or will follow their usual care. The study will compare the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of these methods in promoting cancer screening adherence.
