Age: 10 years - 17 years

Gender: All
- Children ages 10-12 and adolescents ages 13-17 years old with and without disruptive behavior disorders or substance use disorders
- Willingness to engage in 8 sessions of therapy over a period of 8 weeks to reduce risky decision making
- English speaking and can read English at a fourth-grade reading level
Caregiver:
- Legal guardian of a child/adolescent participating in the study
- English speaking and can read English at an eight-grade reading level
This study investigates the effectiveness of a new intervention called Impulsive Decision Reduction Training for Youth (IDRT-Y). It aims to reduce impulsive and risky decision-making in adolescents aged 10 to 17. The study focuses on helping these young individuals make more thoughtful decisions by increasing their future orientation.
Participants will take part in 8 therapy sessions over 8 weeks, which can be completed online. They will also complete surveys about their decision-making and their experiences with the therapy. This study will provide counseling and education at no cost, and participants can receive compensation in the form of e-gift cards.
- Who can participate: Children and adolescents aged 10 to 17, with or without disruptive behavior or substance use disorders, can participate. Participants must be willing to engage in 8 therapy sessions over 8 weeks and be able to speak and read English at a fourth-grade level. Caregivers must be legal guardians and able to speak and read English at an eighth-grade level.
- Study details: Participants will attend 8 therapy sessions over 8 weeks, which focus on reducing risky decision-making. They will also complete surveys about their experiences. Counseling and education are provided at no cost, and participants can earn up to $300 in e-gift cards.
- Study Timelines and Visits: The study will last 24 weeks. The study requires 8 visits.
