Understanding How Social Connections Affect Dental Care Access in Mexican Immigrants
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to understand, through getting your answers to questions on a survey, personal and community social network factors that lead to Mexican immigrants having trouble accessing and utilizing dental care, and features of anxiety associated with relocating to a new place to live.
Detailed description of study
The purpose of this study is to apply Social Networks Analysis (SNA) methods to characterize how social norms, attitudes, resources, and information around dental care and oral health are supported or undermined through personal and community networks, and affect individual behavior and outcomes.

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: healthy,Mexican American immigrants,Mexican American,oral health,disparities

Age: 18 years - 100 years

Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria
Born in Mexico to at least one Mexican parent
Migrated to the US less than or equal to 3 months from the date of enrollment into the study OR migrated to the US 2-5 years ago from the date of enrollment into the study and named as an alter by one of the focal respondents
Exclusion Criteria
Unable to speak and read Spanish or English
Affected by physical, neurological, or mental impairments that would make the individual unable to provide information in the interviews
Member of the same nuclear family of an enrolled participant
This study investigates the social network factors that impact Mexican immigrants' ability to access and use dental care. It also explores the anxiety associated with moving to a new place. Social Networks Analysis (SNA) will be used to understand how social norms, attitudes, resources, and information about dental care and oral health are influenced by personal and community networks.
Participants will answer survey questions about their social networks and how these networks affect their dental care access and oral health behaviors. The study will look at how these networks support or undermine access to dental care. Participants will be compensated for their time.
- Who can participate: Participants must be born in Mexico to at least one Mexican parent and have migrated to the US within the last 3 months or 2-5 years ago. They must be named by another participant and speak and read Spanish or English.
- Study details: Participants will complete surveys about their social networks and dental care experiences. The study uses Social Networks Analysis to understand these relationships. Participants will receive compensation for their involvement.
