Native speakers of American English
Have normal hearing OR have a cochlear implant
The purpose of this study is to investigate how hearing affects learning and memory in adults. It focuses on individuals aged 62 to 85 with normal hearing and those who have cochlear implants after experiencing profound hearing loss in adulthood. A cochlear implant is a device that can help provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing.
Participants will take part in a single session where they will complete various tasks. These include filling out questionnaires, engaging in computer-based exercises, and participating in listening activities to assess verbal learning and memory.
- Who can participate: Participants must be native speakers of American English, aged 62 to 85, and either have normal hearing or a cochlear implant.
- Study details: Participants will engage in a single session involving questionnaires, computer modules, and listening activities to assess their learning and memory. The session will take place on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis, IN.
- Study Visits: The study requires 1 visit.
