Brief description of study.

This research is being done to investigate multisensory processing in young and older adults.

Detailed description of study

In this study, we will address whether elderly individuals integrate vision and proprioception in a way that minimizes variance and to examine if elderly subjects compensate to an imposed spatial mismatch between vision and proprioception as young adults do.
This study takes place in Bloomington, IN and is recruiting from IU Bloomington and the Bloomington community.

Participants will be compensated for their participation.

This study investigates how young and older adults process sensory information from vision and proprioception, which is the sense of body position. The purpose is to understand if older adults combine these senses in a way that reduces errors and how they adjust to changes in spatial alignment compared to younger adults.

Participants will be involved in tasks that test their ability to integrate visual and proprioceptive information. These tasks may involve looking at visual cues and responding to changes in body position to see how well the senses work together.

  • Who can participate: Participants must be either 65 years or older, or between 18 and 25 years old, and right-handed. Individuals with a history of seizures, stroke, nerve diseases, or severe head injuries are not eligible.
  • Study details: Participants will engage in activities that involve visual and proprioceptive tasks. They will need to respond to visual cues and physical movements to assess sensory integration.
