This study investigates how the expectations of speech, influenced by information about the speaker, affect how people perceive speech. It aims to understand the relationship between what we know about a speaker and how we interpret their words. Speech perception is how our brain processes and understands spoken language.

Participants in this study will undergo procedures to assess their speech perception abilities. They will listen to various speech samples and provide feedback on their understanding. This will help researchers learn more about the connection between speaker information and speech interpretation.

  • Who can participate: Participants must be monolingual English speakers, aged 18 to 35, with normal hearing. Those who are bilingual, outside the age range, or have hearing issues are not eligible.
  • Study details: Participants will listen to speech samples and provide feedback on their perception. The study will involve a hearing screening to ensure normal hearing. Participants will receive payment for their involvement.
