Brief description of study.

Anger is common after TBI. Past studies show that anger can sometimes be the result of the way a person thinks about other peoples behaviors. We developed a group therapy program, ICAN, in order to help you think differently about other peoples behaviors.

Detailed description of study

After a TBI, problems with anger and aggression are common. Past studies show that anger can sometimes be the result of the way a person thinks about other peoples behaviors. We developed a group therapy program, ICAN, in order to help you think differently about other peoples behaviors. We expect that changing the way you think about others behaviors will help reduce some of the anger you experience. This is a pilot study, which means the treatment we developed is at the very beginning phase of testing and we do not know how well people will respond to it. There are three main purposes of this study. One is to examine how participants with TBI feel about the therapy program, ICAN, as a treatment (e.g. do they like it? are they satisfied with it?). The second purpose of the study is to examine how ICAN changes the way participants with TBI interpret others behaviors. The third purpose of this study examines changes in anger and aggression after participating in the ICAN therapy.
Participants will be paid for their participation.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

Had your brain injury at least 1 year ago (or longer).

Updated on 19 Feb 2024. Study ID: 1806829789

This study investigates the effectiveness of a group therapy program for individuals who have experienced a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The purpose of this study is to understand how changing thoughts about other people's behaviors can affect feelings of anger and aggression in those who have had a TBI. Traumatic brain injury can lead to problems with anger, and this study aims to explore how therapy might help manage these feelings.

Participants will take part in the ICAN therapy program, which is designed to help them think differently about others' actions. The study will look at how participants feel about the therapy, how it changes their interpretation of others' behaviors, and whether it reduces anger and aggression. Participants will be paid for their participation in this pilot study.

  • Who can participate: Individuals who have experienced a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury at least one year ago are eligible to participate.
  • Study details: Participants will engage in a group therapy program aimed at altering their perceptions of others' behaviors to manage anger and aggression.
