Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to better understand how infection fighting cells in the blood and lungs (white blood cells) fight chronic infection with Pseudomonas.
Detailed description of study
This study will investigate the interactions between macrophages, neutrophils and the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa pertaining to Cystic Fibrosis (CF) lung disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Healthy Volunteers,COPD,Cystic Fibrosis

This study investigates how infection-fighting cells, like white blood cells, work to fight chronic infections caused by the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The focus is on conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis (CF) lung disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Participants will undergo procedures to study the interactions between specific white blood cells, called macrophages and neutrophils, and the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These procedures will help researchers understand how these cells respond to infections in the lungs.
- Who can participate: Participants aged 18 to 65 with a diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis or COPD may be eligible. Key eligibility factors include a history of chronic lung infections and stable health status.
- Study details: Participants will provide blood and sputum samples for analysis. They will also undergo lung function tests and imaging to assess the interaction between their immune cells and the bacteria.
