Influence of Testosterone Administration On Drug-Induced QT Interval Prolongation and Torsades de Pointes
Study on Heart Health and Medication
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to determine if taking medicines called testosterone and progesterone can reduce the risk of an abnormality on the ECG called QT interval prolongation.
Detailed description of study
The purpose of this study is to evaluate and compare the efficacy of novel therapeutic approaches to reduce the risk of drug-induced OTc interval prolongation and Torsades de Pointes (TdP).
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Torsades de Pointes,healthy
-
Age: 65 years - 100 years
-
Gender: Male
The purpose of this study is to determine if taking medicines called testosterone and progesterone can reduce the risk of an abnormality on the ECG called QT interval prolongation. The QT interval is a measure of time it takes for the heart's electrical system to recharge between beats. Prolongation of this interval can lead to serious heart problems.
Participants in this study will be given either testosterone, progesterone, or other therapeutic approaches. The study will evaluate and compare the effectiveness of these treatments in reducing the risk of drug-induced QT interval prolongation and a related condition called Torsades de Pointes (TdP), which is a type of dangerous heart rhythm.
- Who can participate: Individuals aged 18 and older who are at risk of QT interval prolongation or have experienced ECG abnormalities may be eligible to participate. Key eligibility factors include not having a history of severe heart disease or other contraindications to testosterone or progesterone treatments.
- Study details: Participants will receive either testosterone, progesterone, or other therapeutic approaches to assess their effects on QT interval prolongation. A placebo may be used, which is an inactive substance that looks like the investigational medicine but does not contain any medicine.
