Brief description of study.

The purpose of this study is to establish a research participant recruitment database in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery for research projects conducted by the DeVault Otologic Research Laboratory, which specializes in a population of individuals of all ages who have hearing loss. We also need healthy volunteers.

Detailed description of study

The DeVault Research Lab is part of the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, and we are located downtown Indianapolis at Riley Hospital. The lab has been studying speech, language, and cognitive development in children with hearing loss for over 25 years! Over the years we have had many ongoing studies where participants are paid to participate and receive free testing, including their scores on standardized test measures.

If you are interested in learning more about current and future research opportunities with the DeVault Research Lab, contact the study team to find out how to enroll in the Research Recruitment Database. Once enrolled, we can let you know if we have a study in which you may be able to participate.
Enrollment in the Research Recruitment Database does not obligate you to participate in any studies.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: healthy,hearing loss
  • Age: 100 years or below

Updated on 19 Feb 2024. Study ID: 1603207953

The purpose of this study is to create a database for recruiting participants in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. This study investigates hearing loss, a condition that affects the ability to hear sounds, and includes both individuals with hearing loss and healthy volunteers. The database will help in finding participants for various research projects conducted by the DeVault Otologic Research Laboratory.

Participants in the study may receive free testing and will be compensated for their time. The study aims to gather data on speech, language, and cognitive development in children with hearing loss. The DeVault Research Lab, part of the Indiana University School of Medicine, has been conducting such studies for over 25 years.

  • Who can participate: Individuals of all ages with or without hearing loss can join the recruitment database. This includes those who do not meet the criteria or are outside the age range of current studies.
  • Study details: Participants will be added to a recruitment database and contacted for potential studies. Joining the database does not obligate participation in any specific study.
