Screening and Recruitment of Panelists Who Wear Mandibular Partial Dentures for Participation in Subsequent Study(ies) Which Will Use an In-situ Biofilm Model.? (CO-1407011120407-NACT /14-I-098)?
Study on Screening Partial Denture Wearers for Biofilm (a layer of bacteria that can form on surfaces) Research
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to screen persons who wear a lower partial denture to see if they might qualify to participate in future partial denture studies that will look at biofilm growth and ways of removing it.
Detailed description of study
The primary objective of this protocol is to screen and recruit a panel of mandibular partial denture wearers for a subsequent study or studies that will use an in-situ biofilm model.
Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Partial Dentures
-
Age: 18 years - 78 years
-
Gender: All
Inclusion Criteria
Be willing to wear a newly fabricated study partial denture in replacement of their existing partial denture while in one or more future studies
Provide written consent to allow for the examination of their partial denture.
Be wearing a removable mandibular partial denture that is suitable to have one interproximal specimen placed and one buccal surface of a posterior partial denture tooth specimen placed if a new study partial denture was constructed.
Have no current active caries or periodontal disease that may compromise the study or health of the person.
Exclusion Criteria
Pregnant or nursing
Have a history of significant adverse effects following use of oral hygiene products such as dentifrices and mouth rinses.
Have factors which could contraindicate their participation
Currently taking or have ever taken a bisphosphate drug for treatment of osteoporosis.
Current or history of alcohol or drug abuse
The purpose of this study is to screen individuals who wear a lower partial denture to determine their eligibility for future studies. These future studies will focus on biofilm growth, which is a layer of bacteria that can form on surfaces, and methods for removing it. Biofilm can affect oral health, making it important to find ways to manage it effectively.
Participants in this study will have their partial dentures examined to see if they are suitable for use in upcoming research. This involves checking if the dentures can accommodate specific specimens needed for the study. Participants will be asked to wear a newly fabricated study partial denture, replacing their current one, during future studies.
- Who can participate: Adults who wear a removable mandibular partial denture and have no active caries or periodontal disease may qualify. Participants must also be willing to wear a newly fabricated study partial denture and provide written consent for denture examination. Pregnant or nursing individuals and those with certain medical histories are excluded.
- Study details: Participants will be screened to determine if their current partial dentures can support study requirements. This includes the placement of specific specimens on the dentures. Participants must consent to these examinations.
