This study investigates the merging of two sound classes before a nasal consonant, known as the PIN/PEN merger. The PIN/PEN merger refers to a phonetic phenomenon where the sounds in words like 'pin' and 'pen' become indistinguishable before a nasal sound.

Participants in the study will undergo procedures to assess their perception and production of these sound mergers. This may involve listening tests and speaking exercises to evaluate how they hear and pronounce words with the PIN/PEN merger.

  • Who can participate: Eligibility typically includes individuals with native proficiency in the language under study and no known hearing impairments.
  • Study details: Participants will engage in listening tests and speaking exercises to evaluate their perception and pronunciation of words affected by the PIN/PEN merger.
