Brief description of study.

The purpose of this study is to (1) gain a holistic understanding of the processes through which incoming multilingual students gain, practice, and master increasingly complex critical thinking and research skills while enrolled at the university, (2) to understand how curricular and extra-curricular activities, programming, and experiences interact and relate to students' critical thinking development, (3) to learn at what points during a student's first year of study she or he is most likely to acquire and apply research training, (4) to understand they types of assignments and activities that contribute to research skills development, and (5) to identify unmet student needs within these processes in order to make curricular and instructional recommendations.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: healthy
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates how multilingual students at the university develop critical thinking and research skills. It aims to understand the role of curricular and extra-curricular activities in this development and identify the points during the first year when students are most likely to acquire these skills.

The study will examine different types of assignments and activities that contribute to the development of research skills. It will also seek to identify any unmet needs students may have in these processes to make recommendations for curricular and instructional improvements.

  • Who can participate: Participants should be multilingual university students in their first year.
  • Study details: Participants will engage in assignments and activities aimed at enhancing critical thinking and research skills. These interactions will be analyzed to provide recommendations for improvements. If applicable, a placebo will be defined as an inactive substance that resembles the investigational medicine/vaccine but contains no active ingredients.
