Following Opioid Overdose Survivors to Improve Emergency Department-Based Services : A Pilot Study
Investigating the Effectiveness of a Strategy for Medication Assisted Treatment
Brief description of study.
The purpose of this study is to establish POINT as an effective and scalable intervention for engaging patients in meication assisted treatment (MAT). This study employs a Hybrid Type 1 effectiveness implementation design to take full advantage of current POINT expansion efforts currently happening in Indiana. This application covers the pilot phase of the study, the goal of which is to replicate POINT in a new hospital and test its feasibility through (a) assessment of the chosen implementation strategy and (b) the testing of research protocols and secondary data collection procedures to inform our transition to the next stage of our study which will be a 3-year clinical trial of POINT in 3 Indiana hospitals (a separate IRB application will be submitted for this trial at the appropriate time).

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: Opioid Overdose Survivor
-
Age: 100 years or below
-
Gender: All
This study investigates the effectiveness of an intervention designed to engage patients in medication assisted treatment (MAT). Medication assisted treatment is a therapy for substance use disorders that combines medication with counseling and behavioral therapies. The study is currently in its pilot phase, aiming to test the feasibility of implementing this intervention in a new hospital setting.
Study procedures include assessing the implementation strategy and testing research protocols. These steps are essential to gather information that will help transition to a larger, future clinical trial. The study will collect secondary data to evaluate the intervention's impact and refine the approach.
- Who can participate: Participants must be adults diagnosed with a substance use disorder who are eligible for medication assisted treatment. Additional criteria may include willingness to engage in counseling and behavioral therapies.
- Study details: Participants will provide feedback on the strategy's feasibility and participate in data collection efforts related to its implementation in a hospital setting. This may involve completing surveys and participating in interviews to gather insights on the process.
