Functional Minds
Studying How We Understand Others
Brief description of study.
In the current research, I will investigate how basic, low level cognitive processes involved in the perception of others' faces and bodies are linked with perceptions of others? minds. Generally speaking, I seek to investigate whether perceivers? motivation (e.g., via the perception of imminent interactions) and cognitive capacity (i.e., via cognitive load) when thinking about others influences the extent to which perceivers infer others have simple or sophisticated inner states.

Eligibility of study
You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:
- Conditions: healthy
-
Age: 100 years or below
-
Gender: All
This study investigates how basic cognitive processes, like how we see other people's faces and bodies, are connected to how we understand their thoughts and feelings. The purpose is to explore if the motivation of the person observing and their mental capacity affect how they perceive others' minds as simple or complex.
Participants will be involved in tasks that assess their perception and cognitive load. Cognitive load refers to the amount of mental effort being used in the working memory. The study will examine how these factors influence participants' perceptions of others.
- Who can participate: Participants aged 18 to 65, who have no history of neurological disorders, are eligible for this study.
- Study details: Participants will complete various perception tasks and may receive a placebo. A placebo is a substance with no therapeutic effect used as a control in testing.
