Brief description of study.

The purpose of this study is to examine influences on sex-related behavior and sexual functioning of sex hormones and genes on the Y-chromosome. This will be accomplished through studies of adults with androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), who have a Y-chromosome but, because of defective androgen receptors, are unable to respond to masculinizing hormones and therefore develop a female physical appearance and are reared as females.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: androgen insensitivity syndrome
  • Age: 100 years or below
  • Gender: All

This study investigates the effects of sex hormones and genes on the Y-chromosome on sexual behavior and functioning. It focuses on adults with androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), a condition where individuals have a Y-chromosome but cannot respond to male hormones due to defective receptors, resulting in a female physical appearance and upbringing.

Participants in this study will undergo various procedures to assess the impact of sex hormones and genetic factors on their sexual functioning and behavior. The study aims to better understand how these biological elements influence individuals with AIS.

  • Who can participate: Adults with androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), typically aged 18 and older, who have a Y-chromosome but cannot respond to male hormones.
  • Study details: Participants will complete interviews and questionnaires, and may provide biological samples to evaluate sex hormones and genetic roles in sexual functioning.
